How We Approach Our Work
The Foundation's activities to support public safety fall into 4 categories:
- Urgent grants and guidance to MPD
- Shorter-term member programming for MPD
- Longer-term programs focused on MPD priority areas
- City-wide public safety programs and policy initiatives.
How We Support the Metropolitan Police Department
The DC Police Foundation supports efforts and focus on vulnerable children and neighborhoods with pro-active preemptive programs working hand-in-hand with the community. Because modern policing requires more sophisticated training and equipment, the DC Police Foundation also assists with the acquisition of more effective technologies.

- Year-round programs and summer camps for at-risk city youth;
- Equipment for a specialized law enforcement unit combating internet crimes against children;
- Advanced training for DC police detectives and investigators, and
- Support for better technology to enhance the crime fighting effectiveness of the MPD.
