Joseph Persichini, Jr.

On November 3, 2006, Joseph Persichini, Jr., was designated by Director Robert S. Mueller as the Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington Field Office (WFO). During his tenure at WFO, Mr. Persichini has been involved in leading major events, such as the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, large scale investigations in critical areas like the Abramoff and Jefferson Public Corruption investigations; the terrorist Anthrax Mailings of 2001; Fraud and Foreign Corrupt Practices investigations in the billions of dollars; Major counterintelligence investigations and the monumental challenge of investigating all criminal acts against United States Persons committed in the Middle East.

Active in both the business community and with local residents, Mr. Persichini revitalized the outreach activities of the division to all communities, including creation of multi-cultural organizations such as the Arab, Muslim, Sikh Advisory Council (AMSAC). Based upon Mr. Persichini’s leadership with AMSAC and other organizations, he was awarded the 2009 Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) Public Service Award. Also, WFO was awarded the D.C. Chamber of Commerce Community Service award in 2006 and identified by Washingtonian Magazine as the Best Place to Work in 2007. 

Mr. Persichini joined the FBI in September of 1976, and has subsequently served in Alexandria, Virginia; Denver, Colorado and the New York City field offices. Mr. Persichini was promoted to the position of Supervisory Special Agent at FBI Headquarters in the Office of Professional Responsibility in March, 1988. In May, 1991, he was transferred to the Miami Division, where he served as Supervisory Special Agent of the Public Corruption Squad and was the Program Manager responsible for the direction and support of the FBI Miami's Public Corruption program. 

In November, 1996, Mr. Persichini was designated the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Division with responsibilities for all Criminal and Administrative programs. 

In November of 2002, Mr. Persichini was designated Special Agent in Charge, Administrative Division of the Washington Field Office, with responsibility for all human resources, facilities, technical operations, security, training and budget matters. 


Mr. Persichini was born February 24, 1954, in Buffalo, New York. He attended Canisius College in Buffalo, New York and received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Accounting. Prior to entering on duty with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Mr. Persichini worked in a family-owned commercial light service corporation. 

On December 25, 2009, Mr. Persichini retired from the FBI after 33 years of dedicated service. 

On September 1, 2010, Mr. Persichini accepted the position of Executive Director of the Washington DC Police Foundation.
